What the idea asks about
Theory of Mind research examines how people reason about what someone else knows, wants, or believes. A laboratory task is a narrow sample of that reasoning under particular language, memory, and response demands.
Why one task tells us little
Performance can change with wording, familiarity, attention, memory load, and how an answer must be given. A missed answer does not establish a broad social ability, developmental age, or diagnosis.
Extra care around autism
It is inaccurate and harmful to claim that autistic people simply “lack” a Theory of Mind. Research findings are more mixed and task-dependent than that slogan suggests. METAMI treats this area as social-understanding observation only and never relates an activity result to autism likelihood.
